The Venetian cuisine is a unique gastronomic heritage, a meeting of flavors from water and land. It originated in ancient times when fishing, hunting, and horticulture came together, offering unique products and ingredients. Due to its geographical location and millennia-old history, the cuisine of this significant city has been able to enrich itself with influences from various sources.
The name ‘Antica Besseta’ derives from the ancient Venetian term ‘Bessi,’ which means the coins of that time.
It is said that in the 1800s, the sister of the owner of the establishment was a kind and generous woman. Touched by the presence of so many poor people, whenever possible, she would offer a meal and even some ‘bessi’ to those in need. Hence the name of the venue ‘Vecia Besseta’ and, later, ‘Antica Besseta.’ It quickly became one of the oldest and most well-known trattorias in the city. The venue is located on Salizzada Ca Zusto, between Campo San Giacomo dell’Orio and Campo Nazario Sauro, in a privileged position, away from the hustle and bustle of major tourist flows.
